January 2019
A new laboratory & office refurbishment for the new UCL Biosciences Centre for Life’s Origins & Evolution (CLOE).
The proposed scheme will be located on the 2nd floor of the Anatomy & Medical Sciences Building on UCL’s Bloomsbury Campus. In addition, we have also been appointed to produce designs for a new laboratory and office refurbishment for the UCL Biosciences Cell and Development Biology (CBD) Head of Research Department (HoRD), located on the same floor of the same building. As part of these projects, existing staff will be decanted to alternative locations within the campus, while these spaces undergo refurbishment works.
Both projects require the review and rationalisation of the existing accommodation, and the development of detailed proposals for the retrofit of the space to meet contemporary technical specifications, with MEP services that will future proof the facility. A range of laboratory environments are required to encourage different working methodologies, with high quality write up and research spaces for staff and students that promote collaboration while providing privacy for focused study. Lastly, high-grade flexible office space is necessary that is adaptable to the needs of future users.
The end result for both new departments will be the provision of a significant contemporary research asset for UCL Faculty of Life Sciences that will attract the highest calibre of staff and students to the University. Work is ongoing, and construction will start next year.
