Vibrant Hub for UCL's Centre for Life's Origins and Evolution
Burwell architects were appointed by UCL estates to develop proposals for a new laboratory and office refurbishment for the newly established UCL Biosciences Centre for Life's Origins and Evolution (CLOE).
Located on the second floor of the Anatomy and Medical Sciences Building on the University's Bloomsbury campus, the new facilities give the CLOE a vibrant physical hub which will attract new collaborations and foster relationships across disciplines.
The renovated office space provides a high grade flexible working environment which can be adapted to the needs of the user. The adjacencies of laboratory space, focused study areas and write up areas allow for a symbiotic relationship between the different facets of high level research.
Sustainability was embedded within the project, as required by UCL's Environmental Sustainability Policy. Key elements of this process included minimising energy use through intelligent design concepts, maximising the use of natural daylighting, effective water management systems and specification of materials with a BREEAM Green Guide 'A' rating.
