Burwell Commissioned for International Way Stratford Housing

January 2020

Telford Homes have appointed Burwell Architects to deliver a major mixed-use development.

The site, originally owned by LCR, The Department for Transport and HS1 Ltd, has been acquired by Telford Homes. It is in a great location adjacent to Stratford International Station and the Westfield shopping centre. International Way is comprised of two 26 storey towers with 380 residential units with a podium below housing retail and office space. The development will include 380 new homes, made up of 247 build to rent apartments and 133 affordable homes, alongside office and commercial space. There will also be an extensive communal amenity space including a resident’s lounge, terrace, and gym.

Telford Homes are a new client for Burwell Architects, and we look forward to a long-lasting professional relationship, on this project and others. We have been appointed for our technical expertise and understanding of space standards and arrangements, as well as our broad knowledge of how high-density housing is constructed.

The scheme has a large amount of repetition within both the internal unit types and the external façade, so the project will readily lend itself to BIM technology. Changes to the repetitive elements will simultaneously update high quantities of information within the model allowing changes to be quickly assessed and finalised, bringing workflow and programme benefits. In addition, information within the model is also being used for the purposes of BREEAM, and to assist the client to assess the environmental performance of the building which in turn feeds into the building’s life cycle assessment.

Enabling works will commence later this year with completion expected in 2025.
